Rays to Play 2025 Home Games at Yankees’ Field

The Tampa Bay Rays will play their home games for the 2025 season at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees. This decision comes after extensive damage to the Rays’ usual home, Tropicana Field, caused by Hurricane Milton. The Rays expressed their gratitude to the Yankees for allowing them to use Steinbrenner Field, which is located just 30 minutes away from Tropicana Field.

Steinbrenner Field, which has a capacity of 11,026, is the largest spring training stadium in Florida and will be the Rays’ temporary home until Tropicana Field is repaired. The repairs are estimated to cost $55.7 million and are expected to be completed by the 2026 season. The Rays’ principal owner, Stuart Sternberg, emphasized the importance of having a home venue for the team and their fans during recovery.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred praised the collaboration between the Rays and Yankees, stating that this arrangement meets the league’s goals of keeping the Rays in their home market and minimizing disruption for players and fans. The Yankees’ managing general partner, Hal Steinbrenner, also expressed support for the Rays, highlighting both organizations’ deep roots in the Tampa Bay region.

The Rays will continue using Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida, for their spring training games, while Steinbrenner Field will host regular-season games. The Yankees will continue their spring training activities at Steinbrenner Field, and the Class-A Tampa Tarpons will use other fields at the complex. This arrangement ensures that Rays fans can still enjoy a full season of home games in a familiar location.
